On Friday, April 11^th, we started our spring gospel meeting with Kevin Clark of Birmingham, Alabama. Brother Clark brought a total of 5 lessons over a period of 3 days. Each message went to the heart of the matter & was presented thoroughly. On Friday, the lesson was entitled, “Straight Talk About Sin.” We had a total of 141 souls present. The Bible teaches that sin is violation of God’s law (1 John 3:4). There are sins of commission (1 John 5:17) & sins of omission (James 4:17). Sin separates from God (Isaiah 59:1-2), cost Jesus His life (2 Corinthians 5:20-21), is pleasurable (Hebrews 11:24-27), is addictive (2 Timothy 2:24-26), & is not inevitable (1 John 2:1). When sin comes, do we look for a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13)? The moral of the message was simply, “When it comes to sin…just stop it!”

On Saturday, the lesson was entitled, “Hell Is Real.” We had a total of 113 souls present. Hell is real & it is so horrible that we must do whatever it takes to avoid it (Mark 9:42-48 & Matthew 18:8-9). Unfortunately, most people are going to hell (Matthew 7:13-14). The reality of hell should motivate us to do at least 3 things: 1) to teach others, 2) to obey the gospel, & 3) to live right.

On Sunday, we heard 3 lessons. Lesson 1 was “The Local Church”. We had a total of 116 souls present. The local church is a congregation of believers who meet & work together locally. It is made up of individuals Christians. As Christians, we have a responsibility to live holy lives (James 1:27), provoke the saints (Hebrews 10:24-25), & teach the lost (Matthew 28:19-20). Christianity is a teaching religion. Therefore, we cannot teach right, live wrong, & call ourselves Christians. Lesson 2 was “Book, Chapter, & Verse”. We had a total of 159 souls present. BCV demands scriptural authority for all we say & do (Colossians 3:17). Humanity needs to respect God’s boundaries & revere God because we don’t know what is best for us, but God does (Jeremiah 10:23) & we are so easily deceived (James 1:21-27). Lesson 3 was “The Truth About Judgment Day”. We had a total of 127 souls. Judgment day is coming (Acts 17:30-31). Everyone will be there (Revelation 20:11-15). We need to know the Judge & His standard. Jesus is the judge & the standard is the word of God (John 12:42-48). The outcome of judgment day will determine our eternal destiny (Revelation 20:11-15).

Our highest attendance was 159, which was 16 more than our highest last year. Our average attendance was 131, which was 26 higher than our average last year. Keep up the good work & thank you brother Clark for allowing God to use you as an instrument of righteousness.
