2014 State Of The Congregation
Today is the first Sunday in May, which has been set aside by the Elders of this congregation for the Evangelist to present the “State of the Congregation” address. This is not a political message, just simply a sermon from the Bible pointing what we are doing right, what we are doing wrong, & what areas we need improvement. Sounds like every other Sunday, nonetheless these are observations of the local church from the Evangelist’s point of view.
There are two areas we need to think about:
- Radio Program (Matthew 28:19-20) – This is a major work we started 2 months ago, but have only been airing for the past 3 weeks. Already God has blessed this effort. The radio program has been in the mind of the leadership of this church for quite some time, but with the success of our website & the high cost of having a radio program in this area, it was no longer a priority. Nevertheless, with the appointment of Dan Jackson to the Eldership, he would not rest until he found an affordable solution. We have that solution. Brother Jackson has taken the lead in this project. Let us continue to pray for this good work.
- Volunteerism (Psalm 110:3) – In 2011, volunteerism was the “buzz word” in this congregation. Some answered the call early. Some answered the call late. Many did not answer the call at all. Due to this being the case, it has contributed to the “roller coaster” effect we have been experiencing over the past 9 months. The collection has been inconsistent. Baptisms have been inconsistent. The attendance has been inconsistent. As Christians, it is important that we: a) Find our passion, b) Start the work, c) Never abandon it, d) Accept help when suggested, & e) be fiscally responsible if the church is needed to bear any burden financially.
More will be presented from the pulpit today.
Let us have a great Lord’s day & do more! J
