Sins Of Sensuality
In Galatians 5:19-21, the Bible reads, “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
What is meant by sins of sensuality? Sins of sensuality are those sins which excessive devotion is given to the gratification of one’s sexual appetite. Sins of sensuality are works of the flesh. The works of the flesh are the things we do that will keep us out of Heaven. Galatians 5:19-21 identify for such sins, but the ESV excludes adultery as one of these sins because adultery would be included in fornication. Adultery is a specific type of fornication. The ESV uses the word “sexual immorality” for “fornication”, “impurity” for “uncleanness”, & “sensuality” for “lasciviousness”.
Sexual Immorality
Unlawful sexual intercourse of the unmarried & married. This includes: homosexuality, adultery, incest, & bestiality (Matthew 5:27-28, Matthew 5:32, Acts 15:19-20, 1 Corinthians 6:18, & 1 Thessalonians 4:3).
Impurity
Moral uncleanness in either thought or deed; filth, lustful living (Romans 6:19 & 1 Thessalonians 4:7).
Sensuality
Debauchery, unbridled lust, excess, wantonness, outrageousness, shamelessness, insolence. This includes: filthy words, indecent bodily movements, unchaste handling of males or females, filthy jokes, & pornography (2 Corinthians 12:20-21, Ephesians 4:17-19, & 1 Peter 4:3-5).
If we are engaged in any of these things, then listen to your Bible in Acts 3:19, where the Bible reads, “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.” Not only are we to repent of these things, but in Galatians 5:21, it says “& things like these”, which means anything similar to these things listed. The Bible is clear. “Those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!”
